Perhaps they said the hell with it, quit their job, cashed in their 401K and set off to explore the world leaving all caution to the wind. Perhaps that was the first vacation they’d had in years. There’s always a reality though behind these posts. Easy to make assumptions and become jealous and feel inferior. Seemingly perfect people with perfect bodies and perfect bank accounts frolicking around on tropical beaches or on exotic safari trips. It takes an extraordinarily confident and centered person to not find themselves comparing out with others. As in most things in life there are the pros and the cons. Social media is both a blessing and a curse. It’s a MASSIVE time thief and can quickly rage out of control. Often those hooked on social media are swept into and are fully immersed in (as if by fantasy) living somebody else’s life more than they’re actually living their own. We seem to have an insatiable appetite and desire to know the details of strangers’ lives. Whether it be Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snap-chat, Tumbler, Pinterest etc… so many of us are scarily dependent on this form of communication/interaction of being kept up-to-date with what’s going on in the world and our own back yards. Of course it all happened bit by bit but perhaps we weren’t paying attention or unaware of what a huge part it was playing in so many of our lives, especially our kids. New social media platforms are constantly being created, popping up like weeds. Although it’s been around a long time, it seems to feel as though its power crept into our lives fairly rapidly. We certainly are living in the age of technology not only socially but also for business purposes in which social media rules big time.
